Attic Surfing!
In my quest for the ultimate adventure - I’ve stumbled onto a new sport that is sure to be a hit…see what you think….
We just sold our house. And last week while getting our house ready for an upcoming home inspection, Missy asked me to check out the attic and see if I could clean out some lint. Our dryer for some unknown reason (I guess it was ok in 1987) vents into the attic and doesn’t quite vent outside. Well I went up there…and I’ve never been in an attic in my 33 years so far on this planet. I know. I know. But I don’t want to hear it…some of you can probably already guess where this is headed.
I had no idea you were only supposed to walk on the beams. I took 2 steps and fell completely through to our top level. I landed on my ass in a very narrow hallway (about 2 1/2 feet wide) leading from Zak’s room to our master bedroom. The 8-foot hole I crashed through was directly over the banister and another couple of inches I could have had a serious boo-boo going down a flight of stairs. I’m sure it wouldn’t be so fun! I was pretty lucky…and as I lay there covered in pink insulation I though ‘This is a perfect example of why I always pay experts anytime there’s something that needs to be fixed in the house’.
Here are 2 pics I snapped (the angle is little off and it looks like there is almost no way possible I could have landed in the hallway - but the hole is directly above this banister so I could have went either way):
Anyway since I’ve had time to reflect back on this - there might be a sport here. We cover the floor underneath the attic with mattresses or foam padding. Then you just dive anywhere you want in the attic. Well…ok maybe not!
Be safe out there…and stay out of attics!

I know you’re into extreme sports, but this is ridiculous! I think attics are better suited for starving authors than Internet entrepreneurs.

It’s alright Yanik. My background is in real estate and my college degree is in architecture. Couple of years ago, I was up in my attic and I was walking on the roof trusses. Actually I was crawling on top of them because my attic is so low. My knee slipped and I crashed through the ceiling right into my living room. My wife got a nice surprise sitting on the couch. Can you imagine that. She was laughing her you know what off. I guess it was pretty funny now that I look at it.
Don’t worry, it happens to the best of us.

Don’t worry. I did the same thing back in 1982 and became an instant, temporary soprano.

CLASSIC! Welcome to the ‘club’, Yanik. Been there, done it… never again!
Though, your hole was bigger than the one I made. Well, if you’re going to do something like that, might as well go all the way and do it in style, eh?! ;o)

I am so sorry for you Yanik, but that was the funniest thing I read this week, it just looked like a scene from movie… I to had to go many times in my attic and always looked up at frosty the snowman for support.
Bon courage in your new home..

You should try “ditch surfing” and “soccer tennis”
ditch surfing is real easy, truck, ditch, surfboard, rope,
driver — warm sun =)
soccer tennis, same rules as ping pong but you kick
ball over and get 2 touches with normal soccer rules
haha good fun
hey checkout our new site

Hi Yanik,
It could happen to anyone…
However this story will impact the reader with a good ending!
I’m relating this to Martin Campbell’s ‘Mask of Zorro or Jan de Bont’s ‘The Legend of Hill House’
(the great moovies of this century)!
For those with stamina to extreme sports and the most advantageous
this will be an entire challenge..or perhaps the end…
Yanik, I’m a great admirer to the extreme sports as well.
Talk to you soon.
Sincerely,
Elitsa Asenova

Hi Yanik,
Wow, you are truly blessed,…
I’m a registered nurse and all I can say is,
that could have turned out pretty ugly.
Thank you for all of the inspiration and information
over the past few years.
Good Luck in your home!

Yanik,
I know exactly what that is like! I was installing a security system in my cousin’s house and I was down to just a couple of wire runs and missed one of the trusses… Well, you know what happens next. gravity takes over! I did not hit the ground like you. Luckily, my arm snagged a truss as I was passing thru so I was hanging out of the ceiling.
I thought about changing my company name from Target Security to Drop in Security. But I thought I might lose some business when I explain how that name came about : )

Yanik,
I was snickering at the computer and my ex-contractor husband asked what was so funny. I read your blog and told him that reminds me of someone else…who should’ve known better.
When he was in our attic (doing I don’t know what), he came through our dining room ceiling. Of all people, a former remodeler and contractor ought to know where to walk in the attic.
I’m glad you aren’t seriously hurt.
